Hey, fam! I trust you all are well and electrified on this day! It's great to see you here and know that you're interested in creating Elderberry Syrup, which is by the way, one of my favorite tonics to make. *side smile*
So, fall and winter season is approaching which means it's time to tighten up and strengthen our immune system to combat those sneaky viruses, colds, flu, and infections. I love Elderberry syrup for anytime of the year for it's high antioxidant content but it's especially great for the winter when those infections are really out here ready to run up on us.
For those that don't know about Elderberries, it's been used medicinally for thousands of years from toothaches to the plague. Hippocrates “father of medicine,” has even wrote about it often for it's divine power and has described this plant as his “medicine chest” for the wide variety of ailments it cured. Elderberry grows abundantly and is native in Europe and North America.
These powerful antioxidant berries work to keep the immune system strong and resilient. More ways in which this syrup serves are:
- Releasing mucus and inflammation from the body
- Aid in digestive help
- Aid in allergy relief
- Helps ease nerve damage, sciatica, back pain, etc.
- Cystitis/Urinary Tract/Bladder Infections

This UPFUL elderberry syrup recipe is a specialty of mine and an Upful exclusive, haha. Whenever I make it for family and friends they feel a huge difference within hours of consuming this tonic blend. It's all alkaline, all Dr. Sebi inspired, and all electrical with high antioxidant content and 102 minerals. This blend is no joke and I couldn't hold this recipe to myself so here it is! Can be used medicinally or in baked goods such as muffins and pancakes.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup dried black elderberries
- 1 tbsp of Burdock Root or Food for the Blood
- 2 tbsp fresh or dried ginger root
- 3½ cups spring water or alkaline water
- 2 tsp - 1 tbsp cloves or clove powder
- 1 cup raw agave
Instructions
- Pour water into medium glass or ceramic sauce pan and add elderberries, burdock root, ginger root, cloves and allspice.
- Bring to a boil and then cover and reduce to a low simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour.
- Remove from heat and let cool until it is cool enough to be handled.
- Mash the berries carefully using a spoon or other flat utensil.
- Pour through a strainer into a glass jar or bowl.
- Discard the elderberries and let the liquid cool to lukewarm.
- When it is no longer hot, add the agave and stir well.
- When the agave is well mixed into the elderberry mixture, pour the syrup into a mason jar.
- Voila! You just made homemade UPFUL elderberry syrup! Store in the fridge and take daily.
Notes
Standard dose is ½ tsp - 1 tsp for kids and ½ - 1 tablespoon for adults. If the flu does strike, take the normal dose every 2-3 hours instead of once a day until symptoms disappear.
How long does elderberry syrup last in the fridge?
The short answer is that it really depends. I’ve found that placing the finished syrup in a mason canning jar while it is still warm creates an air-tight seal and allows it to last much longer in the fridge, up to several months. As a general rule, it lasts for about a month. I always have a batch frozen in an ice cube tray and then in an air tight container in the freezer so it last longer.
Hey there this looks wonderful! I did have a question though. There isnt a measurement for allspice but its listed in the directions. How much allspice goes in? And is it ok for babies? My girls 11 months old. Bless
