Are you interested in learning which herbs cleanse the body? Are you curious to even know where to start? Are you overwhelmed with all the BS people talk about on cleansing and not seeing it work for you?
Well, I’ve got some goodiesss, I’ve got some goodiesssss. I’m so excited to share this with you all in cleansing your divine bodies. Let me say one thing and make this a bit simpler for you. Alkalinity! It all is much easier when you’re sticking with alkaline herbs. Why? Because you don’t degenerate one thing to regenerate another. Your body works as a team and helps each other as a unit (Kevin Hart voice). Why consume hybrid(MAN MADE) herbs even if it has a few benefits? What’s the hurt in using alkaline herbs when it’s divine and electrical? THERE IS NO HURT! Only light at the end of the tunnel.
Now, I get a lot of questions on how to even start the process of cleansing and what herbs to use to start. Of course, cleansing, before anything else, begins when change what you consume. I won’t kill you with too much info now, but if you want to overstand the foundation of alkalinity and the African Bio Mineral Balance, click here.
Back to business!
Here are my personal TOP 5 alkaline cleansing herbs I always keep in my kitchen. These herbs can be used as a tea, powder in smoothies and toppings for different alkaline dishes (when in powder form).
Burdock root is a blood purifying powerhouse that has all of the 102 minerals! Since blood is the lifeline of the body and dis-ease is manifested from the state of the blood, it’s crucial to purify it and maintain it’s alkalinity. It can be used alone but is often used in combination with yellow dock and sarsaparilla. Yellow dock for the taste and sarsaparilla for a powerful combination for the body to absorb iron easily.
Herbalists use burdock root as a diuretic (increases the rate of urination to remove waste from the blood and body), diaphoretic (sweating to remove toxins from the skin), and a blood purifying agent (to destroy bacteria and fungus).
In addition to these amazing benefits, burdock root is also used for:
- under/overactive thyroid
- iodine deficiency
- high blood pressure
- gastro complaints, cancer
- joint pain
- bladder infections
- skin ailments (abscesses, acne, carbuncles, psoriasis, eczema)
- supports liver and gallbladder function
- immune system stimulant
- serves as prebiotic (food) for the probiotics (good bacteria) in the colon – cleanses colon
DANDELION ROOT & DANDELION LEAVES
This herb is absolutely divine. I use dandelion leaves in my salad, saute them and add them to my alkaline smoothie.
Dandelion root detoxifies the liver and gallbladder, and dandelion leaves to support kidney function. It acts as a diuretic and increases the amount of urine produced by the body, supporting kidney function.
It has high amounts of vitamins A, C, K, and B. With minerals such as; magnesium, zinc, potassium, iron, calcium, and choline.
In addition, dandelion aids in:
- toning and helping the digestive tract
- stimulates appetite
- lowers blood pressure
- uplifts mood (anxiety, anger, depression)
- hormone health/balance
- UTI
- heartburn
- skin problems/swelling
- diabetes
- coffee substitution
- even used to make beers and wine (i’m happy about that!)
- NATURAL DETOX FOR THE BODY!
- (liver) regenerative capabilities.
When I eat or take dandelion, I make sure I drink my gallon of water a day to compensate for the amount of water lost. Jeeze, I urinate about 30 times a day! I’m still not use to it, lol.
The flower can be eaten, cooked or made into wine. The leaves are used for salads. The roots are roasted, made as tea or consumed.
Sarsaparilla is native to South America and the Caribbean where the Jamaican or Honduran and Mexican originate. It’s used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and toxin binding properties, via urine, stool, and sweating, to purify the blood and treat skin conditions.
Sarsaparilla contains vitamins A, B-complex, C and D, and minerals iron, manganese, sodium, silicon, sulfur, copper, Zinc, and iodine. Btw, it has the highest content of iron in the world! I love pairing this herb with Burdock. I feel rejuvenated and cleansed every time.
In addition, sarsaparilla aids in:
- antiulcer
- anticancer
- diuretic properties
- heals open wounds
- arthritis
- cough
- indigestion
- loss of sexual desire
IRISH SEA MOSS
Sea Moss contains over 92 minerals of the 102 minerals our body is comprised of, including trace minerals of sulfur, iodine, iron, calcium, selenium, magnesium, potassium, and folate. It’s beneficial for thyroid support. It’s a “time released” energizing fuel source, providing long chain polysaccharides that help to deliver nutrients over a longer period of time for a slower and more sustained nutritional uptake.
I use sea moss in pretty much everything. When mixed with something, it doesn’t have a taste or smell but when by itself it has a fishy scent.

ELDERBERRY
Elderberry is so divine and so amazing. I once made an elderberry tonic and cured two people of the flu in a matter of hours! No joke. I also take a tablespoon of elderberry syrup a day to eliminate body pain from the herniated discs and tears I have from a car accident. I cannot go without elderberry in my life.
Elderberry is used to:
- boost the immune system
- sinus pain
- sciatica
- nerve pain
- chronic fatigue syndrome
- hay fever
- laxative for constipation
- to increase urine flow
- remove mucus from the respiratory system
