In order to stay healthy, our nervous systems and psyches need to face challenges and succeed in meeting those challenges. When this need is not met, or when we're challenged and cannot triumph, we end up lacking vitality and unable to fully engage with life.
Here's 3 simple ways how you can release lodged energy in your body now:
-
Rhythmic Tapping
- Using your two hands tap on both sides of your body starting from your shoulders and working your way down your body. Interchange the tapping on each hand, use the same rhythm, or use one hand to tap on those areas of your body where you feel the emotion most. If it's everywhere, then tap into those areas. Be with yourself for a few moments after to notice how you feel. Is the energy still present in your body? Yes? Did it change at all? Notice.
-
The Beetle aka The Temper Tantrum
- Just like children, we get to have temper tantrums sometimes because big energy is wanting to move out. The beetle, you'll lay on your back and have your feet and arms in the air. Begin to punch and kick the air, letting out the emotion that you're experiencing. Do it until you are tired or feel the energy/emotion is complete. This is a safe way to release energy if a pillow, bed, or something that can be punched isn't available. Be with yourself for a few moments after to notice how you feel. Is the energy still present in your body? Yes? Did it change at all? Notice.
-
Dance or Sing
- Singing by humming or in a long tone allows your nervous system to recalibrate by making your breathing long and deep. This helps ground you and also moves out stuck energy lodged in different parts of your body. You can hum in different tones to hone in on these different areas, or whatever feels best for you at that time.
- Dancing is not like a routine or planned. Free dancing allows you to move in whatever way your body desires to move the energy at that time. You're also tuning into the present moment by allowing the frequency of the music to move through you in a fluid way.
When engaging in these practices, it's crucial not to cling to the emotions, narratives, or beliefs tied to the triggering situation or whatever prompts the need to release pent-up energy. By doing so, you're essentially recycling that energy rather than actively opting to release and liberate yourself from it. Consequently, you'll persist in experiencing what you're going through because you perpetuate this cycle rooted in the narrative or belief system.
