A little history about this epic sea veggie...

Irish Moss was discovered during the 1800's in Ireland to support the people during the potato famine and because people were starving and desperate for food, they began eating this alga that was on the rocks. This then brought attention to the form of sea moss native to the Caribbean that also supports the body in cellular nourishment.

Preparation

Rinse your moss thoroughly to wash away any debris from the ocean. You may then prepare it in warm water or cold.

HEAT: Soak in warm spring water for 20 minutes. Rinse the moss one more time! Add to a pot and cover with spring water about an inch above the moss. Bring the water to a light boil. Remove from heat and allow to sit for at least 20 minutes. Do not dump out the water - we want all the goodness that is there. Add to blender with the water in ratio of 1 cup sea moss to 1/4 cup water. Blend until smooth and creamy. Store it in a glass mason jar or container in the fridge. 

Lasts up to 2 weeks refrigerated with up to 6 months if frozen. 

NO HEAT: Soak in spring water between 6-36 hrs (until soft/gelatinous). Add the moss with the water to a blender in a ratio of 1 cup of moss to 1/2 cup of spring water. Add more water based on your liking. Blend until smooth and creamy. Store it in a glass mason jar and put into the fridge or in a container and put it in the freezer.

Lasts up to 2 weeks refrigerated with up to 6 months if frozen.

The principal constituent of Irish moss is a mucilaginous body, of which it contains about 55%. It also contains albuminoids, polysaccharides, and about 5% of mineral matter rich in iodine, calcium, magnesium, potassium phosphate, and sulphur. Sufficient amounts of Vitamins  A, D, E and K.

    Sea moss

    This greatly reduced my inflammation and helped my rheumatoid arthritis within days of taking the capsules of sea moss. Will definitely be purchasing more. Great products!

    Great quality!

    This sea moss is of excellent quality. It is a small amount but after cleaning and soaking it was more than enough. I will be ordering this again.

    Not all sea moss are created equal

    With so many variations and sellers of sea moss on the market, including people who are growing it in tanks, you dont know who to trust. Previously, I’ve used Upful Blends (Food for the Blood) and my acupuncturist definitely noticed a difference, without me telling her (The tea taste good and I was drinking too much of it, causing my liver to constantly be in detox mode). Based on her reading/assessment, I knew these products were of good quality and did what they said they would do. When I noticed they were selling sea moss, I had to purchase it!

    Upful blends sea moss looked and tasted different (not salty) then what I ordered in the past. 4oz yielded a large Mason jar (and two smaller containers) of sea moss gel for me (the amount will depend on how much water you use to blend the sea moss with).

    The gel doesn’t have any taste. I can eat it by the spoonful but I usually put it in my smoothies. I’ve also put it in natural unsweetened apple sauce and added a dash of cinnamon, it was delicious!

    As far as benefits, it’s too soon to tell. However, I trust this brand and believe I will see a difference soon. Not to mention, when you make it yourself, you’re paying twice as less and getting almost 3xs as much as you would if you purchased it premade. Its definitely worth trying.
