A little history about this epic sea veggie...

Irish Moss was discovered during the 1800's in Ireland to support the people during the potato famine and because people were starving and desperate for food, they began eating this alga that was on the rocks. This then brought attention to the form of sea moss native to the Caribbean that also supports the body in cellular nourishment. 

It's been used to remove radiation poisoning from the body, soothes inflamed tissue, reinforces and supports the joints of the body, and addresses respiratory ailments!

Preparation

Rinse your moss thoroughly to wash away any debris from the ocean. You may then prepare it in warm water or cold.

HEAT: Soak in warm spring water for 20 minutes. Rinse the moss one more time! Add to a pot and cover with spring water about an inch above the moss. Bring the water to a light boil. Remove from heat and allow to sit for at least 20 minutes. Do not dump out the water - we want all the goodness that is there. Add to blender with the water in ratio of 1 cup sea moss to 1/4 cup water. Blend until smooth and creamy. Store it in a glass mason jar or container in the fridge. 

Lasts up to 2 weeks refrigerated with up to 6 months if frozen. 

NO HEAT: Soak in spring water between 6-36 hrs (until soft/gelatinous). Add the moss with the water to a blender in a ratio of 1 cup of moss to 1/2 cup of spring water. Add more water based on your liking. Blend until smooth and creamy. Store it in a glass mason jar and put into the fridge or in a container and put it in the freezer.

Lasts up to 2 weeks refrigerated with up to 6 months if frozen.

The principal constituent of Irish moss is a mucilaginous body, of which it contains about 55%. It also contains albuminoids, polysaccharides, and about 5% of mineral matter rich in iodine, calcium, magnesium, potassium phosphate, and sulphur. Sufficient amounts of Vitamins  A, D, E and K.

    Sea moss
